Giving Strength to Differently Abled Girl

Rekha is a differently abled girl from a small village Chandpura in Mahoba district. Hailing from a very poor family, she walked with the help of crutches. But Rekha was a girl of different mettle as she continued with her studies despite her special condition.

One fine day she attended a meeting of women conducted in her village under the Women Gaining Ground Project. She keenly listened whatever was being said in the meeting and decided to attend future meetings.

After a few meetings she got many pieces of information on the rights and entitlements of differently abled people. “I had never thought that special people like me had so many rights and so many welfare schemes were available for us”, Rekha said.

She decided to take benefits of the schemes for the differently abled people. She moved to Mahoba city for studies. She met her expenses by giving tuitions to a few children to support not only her studies but also her family. Rekha is still associated with the organisation. Her confidence level has increased so much that she is taking decisions of her liking. In the words of Rekha, “I am grateful to Gramonnati Sansthan for boosting my morale and enabling me to take decisions about me.”
